Craft

Throughout my time in this class, I have noticed different types of craft being used. Craft is your attention to notice the beauty of language in your writing. The way we write and speak are forms of craft within a language. There were a lot of times we were exposed to different genres of craft such as weekly responses, in-class communication, our discussion groups, and the textbook we used.
In every weekly response, we had it was different in its own way. We started off summarizing readings then going to using templates. Our weekly response was from two hundred fifty words then became three hundred to four hundred words by the end of the semester. When my writing 001 instructor insisted to make us start to write more, it made me think more broadly.
When we had our class communication, mostly everyone spoke and had their own opinions on what we were talking about. In the beginning, I never liked to answers questions out loud because I hated to speak in front of everyone and was scared that my answers were wrong. When everyone started to talk about their opinions, it made me convinced that my answer can’t be wrong because there was no right or wrong answer. As the semester came to an end, I became more comfortable to speak my opinion.
In our group discussion, we started off getting to know each other then it grew to meet each other outside of the classroom settings. Every time we had questions to answer during our discussion time, we all had an answer for it. In the beginning, not everyone had an answer but as time went by we all had something to say. I most differently became more intuited in answering all the questions. I also was able to answer questions out loud and became more interactive within my classroom.
When we used our textbook “They say, I say” by Graff, Gerald, and Cathy Birkenstein, I became more aware of what was needed to develop a good sense of writing. It gave an example of a passage that used the templates and didn’t use the templates. The ones that didn’t have the templates, the passage didn’t make sense. But when the templates were in use, the passage has a more in-depth understanding of the readers. By the end of the semester, I began using them in my essays and such forth.
