Research Ethics

Research is a great element in writing and is an important factor to be able to write any essays or presentations about any type of topic. It is the study of materials and sources to establish facts and reach new conclusions. In our writing class, the main times we had to cite our research were when we were doing essays and presentations.
One of our assignments was to get into a group and do a lot of research to be able to complete it. In this project, we had to be able to meet up outside of the typical classroom settings to determine what exactly we wanted to do with it. Our task was to introduce the topic we chose, why we chose this topic, determine a question which would be able to answer within the presentation, find sources to back up your answer, create an interactive slide that involved the topic, research and find images to not make the presentation boring. We determined that in our slideshow we would have a work cited slide to make sure all the information we got were not lies but in fact, were true. Our presentations needed to last about eight-to-ten minutes and it had to be related to language and identity or language and culture. As a group, we mainly focused on how one expresses their identity through the presentation of their culture. Each member of my group was in charge of providing a piece of information that was used in our presentation. My main focus was to make sure everyone in our group completed everything that was assigned to them and to determine when we could meet up. I also was focused on how culture was expressed. I identified that they were are so many ways people determine how to express themselves. I concluded that when it comes to culture, your family plays a major role in it.
Another example when I used research was in my essays. The most recent essay I used sources was the theory of language. I had to identify and explain my personal theory of language. To be able to do that I had to put my point of view on it. To make my views more interesting, I added other people’s views on language to help me.
Our ability to search for things to benefit us in our essay is incredible. We learned that being able to back your facts with articles or readings can get help.
